Designed in 2013, Aisha kaftan is named after a girl I met in Morocco. A skilled jewelry maker, she stole my heart. We spent hours beading and talking and eventually became friends.
After returning to The Netherlands I missed not only Aisha, but also her eclectic studio – filled with boxes of one-of-a-kind beads, stones and ribbons, so colorful that they resembled tiny silky rainbows. Going back to rainy Amsterdam was like hitting the pavement. Goodbye breezy kimonos! Hello jeans, boots and rain proof jackets!
Gone September, October, my clients, just like myself, started missing summer. One of them, Mrs. J v R asked me to help her redecorate her living room. "I'm done with grey" – she said – "let's bring it back to life!". I couldn't be happier!
Having revived her dainty, yet dull apartment into a truly living space, I decided to refresh my own. There started my winter textile shop adventure. A long journey through Holland's most hidden fabric mekkas. By December, my apartment was filled with stacks of fabrics, buttons and zippers of all kinds. On top of them was my first trophy – an ethnic print cotton – reminding me of Aisha's studio. "Let's do it" – I said, putting on my favorite pair of jeans – "Let's finally start my own freaking line".
Aisha comes in three styles: light and dark jeans and camouflage.
